Daring idea, great quality

Not only is this game well thought out, but it feels luxurious as well. The wooden markers and bank notes are great.
Although I think the game is not entirely balanced (being asymmetrical and with some perks being more useful as others), I think most players will go for the dancer that feels right for them, and not for the one with the biggest advantage.
Having a mini-game at the start of your turn is a bit confusing at first, because you almost forget that your normal movement and dice roll comes after that. On the other hand, it's a neat system that allows for stealing of customers.
All said and done: lovely idea, great execution.

Clever, intriguing and one of a kind

This board game is super fun, replayable and surprisingly strategic. On top of that it’s exceptionally designed, including high quality components and guide books. This game is well thought through, down to the smallest details. The customer cards are so clever and fun and correlate with the card outcomes/values perfectly and ever so often makes you giggle. This fast paced game definitely keeps you on your toes. You gotta have your eyes everywhere and think ahead. It’s like sexy chess. Love it.

Amazing

This is such an original, well thought out game with good humour and amazing designs. We've had the game for a couple of days and already played the game 4 times, each time an unique fun experience. Love this game!

Make it rain

This game seems to have in a way broken the paradigm for board games, especially crowd funded board games. A board game by a new creator is in itself a risky proposition for any potential backer and a big gamble for the creator, Then throw in a theme that the board games industry has decided is anathema and as a result induced the kind of rabid apoplexy I'm more used to seeing on the front page of the Daily Mail and it was guaranteed to fail surely, who would back this game? Even if it didn't fail it would be a terrible game that nobody would actually play it, right?

Turns out that not only was Nightshift a pretty big success, it's actually a pretty damn good game. More interestingly it seems to have appealed to an entirely new player base. If you can get people that might not even normally have any interest in board games to notice something and go 'Hey, that looks pretty cool' and more support it with their hard earned dough then you've made something pretty interesting.

One of the things that really struck me about Nightshift is how well done the art design and aesthetics are, there's a conceptual continuity to everything. This means that it looks really good on the table. The production quality is top notch, especially for an indie game. The components are good quality and the decision to have a magnetic round marker on the round tracker is genius. For a game from someone that hasn't made a game before this gets a lot of stuff right, there are player guides for every player and they are well done, the rule book is well laid out and pretty much everything is illustrated and explained well* and the box insert itself is really well done.

As for gameplay itself, Nightshift is a rare example of a thematic game where the mechanics actually make sense in terms of the theme. Power cards when you go on stage, shots giving you a bonus to your dice roll, moving around the club costs energy, another player can steal your customer, a customer might be a complete waste of energy and your turn, it all works and works well. The game doesn't take too long and is pretty quick to pick up and play. There's definitely scope for an expansion, new customers, powers, events or dancers, but it works well on its own.

*The only real issue that came up was the quandary of why customers that can't be commited to either room by a roll have a loyalty number and a star rating. This is seemingly because they can be taken into a player's hand by using the 'Sweet Talker' power card.
